Psychotherapy can be expensive but it’s an investment in your future and, with a good therapist, a finite expense. We understand that paying hundreds of dollars can seem quite a bit, but there are ways we can reduce that burden.
First, therapy is, and should be, a time-limited experience. It’s about building skills that last. Many of the best treatments for most mental health disorders should only last 6 months to a year. Tops. While every individual course of treatment is different and many things come up that may lengthen the amount of time you might spend in treatment, you can look forward to a life largely without symptoms and with the skills to manage those remaining symptoms relatively quickly. After a course of treatment at Durham DBT, you’ll be able to manage your life much more skillfully so that you don’t need us to help.
Second, therapy can be relatively affordable. While we are not allowed, according to insurance regulations1, to provide a sliding fee-scale, many health insurance policies allow for mental health benefits. We are also in-network with one of the largest insurers in the area, Blue Cross/Blue Shield. We are also in-network with the Duke Student Health Plan, which is managed by United Behavioral Health Student Resources. For all subscribers with a BCBS or Student Resources policy, we will file for sessions for you. That means you’ll only need to pay your co-pay at the time of your visit. Keep in mind that you are responsible for all sessions not covered by your insurance, but by and large, you’ll be only paying the co-pay when you come in.
For those of you with different insurance coverage, all forms you need to file to be reimbursed from your insurance company will be provided upon request. It is up to you to file for these out-of-network benefits but most clients find it to be a relatively painless and quick process once it is underway.
Those of you without mental health benefits or paying out of pocket, fees for service are:
- $180 for initial evaluation/consultation
- $120 for individual sessions
- $60 for group sessions
All fees are due at the time of service.
